Cranberry Bog

Cranberry Bog is an incredibly unique 50 acre segment of the lake. In 1830, swamp land was impounded to create Buckeye Lake. As the waters filled the land, the majority of the swamp was destroyed. Surprisingly, the newest parts of the swamp actually floated to the top and expanded. This natural anomaly is only accessible by boat and by permit only. The island houses rare orchids, carnivorous plants, and is Ohio's ONLY bog island. When water levels rise, the Buckeye Lake Historical Society organizes tours to the island. To learn more about the island and its plant inhabitants, click the button below to download a brochure from ODNR.

The Buckeye Lake Historical Society

The Buckeye Lake Historical Society is quietly making a lot of noise! Part museum, part Lake events hub, BLSR plays an incredibly important role in telling the story of where the lake has been while charting its course forward. Visit the museum for a glimpse of life at the lake in the early 1900s. The museum is open Tuesdays through Sundays from 1-4pm. See their events calendar to keep an eye on boat tours, special events and talks on Buckeye Lake history.
